Your two-night three day adventure begins with the departure from Rovos Rail’s gracious station in Capital Park Pretoria. This special journey departs in the morning and slowly meanders westwards through Mafikeng into Botswana and then north towards Mahalapye, crossing the Tropic of Capricorn just after Gaberone. Once the train has passed through the dry reaches of Botswana you arrive at Plumtree in the late afternoon for border formalities with Zimbabwe. You continue in a north-westerly direction passing Bulawayo heading towards Thompson’s Junction and Hwange Game Reserve. Journeys end is the incomparable Victoria Falls on the mighty Zambezi River. Please note that depending upon railways capacity this journey could be routed northwards through Beitbridge and Zimbabwe.
ITINERARY: PRETORIA TO VICTORIA FALLS
Day 1
10h00 The Pride of Africa departs from Rovos Rail’s private station in Capital Park. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining fellow travellers in the midway Lounge car or Observation carriage at the rear of the train.
13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s, which are located near the central part of the train. A gong is sounded before each meal.
19h30 After traversing the Magaliesberg Range dinner is served as the trains heads towards Mafikeng for border formalities.
Day 2
07h00 – 10h00 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s.
13h00 Lunch is served as the train heads towards the Zimbabwe border.
17h00 Border formalities take place in Plumtree.
19h30 Dinner is served in the dining car/s.
Day 3
07h00 – 10h00 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s.
13h00 Lunch is served as the train heads towards the Zimbabwe border. Occasional sightings of wild animals can occur from the train.
17h00 Arrive at the Victoria Falls where your Rovos Rail journey ends.
REVERSE ITINERARY: VICTORIA FALLS TO PRETORIA
Day 1
10h00 Depart Victoria Falls Station. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining fellow travellers in the midway Lounge car or Observation carriage at the rear of the train.
13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s.
19h30 Dinner is served in the dining car/s.
Day 2
07h00 – 10h00 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s.
13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s.
19h30 Dinner is served as the train heads towards Lobatse.
23h00 Arrive at Mafikeng for border formalities.
Day 3
07h00 – 10h00 Breakfast is served in the dining car/s.
13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s.
16h00 A short stop at Pyramid where the Rovos steam engines take over the haulage of the train.
17h00 Arrive at journey’s end, the gracious Rovos Rail station in Capital Park Pretoria.
